Mt. Baker is one of the most iconic peaks in the Lower 48, as well as being one of the most glaciated. It is an ideal location to learn some of the skills that are required for ski mountaineering. On this 3-day trip, we’ll spend quite a bit of time on skill development in preparation for a climb and a ski descent of the peak. Some of the skills that we will include in the program are:
- Mountaineering skills, such as the use of ice axe and crampons for glacier travel
- Crevasse rescue skills and roped travel on glaciers
- Route finding and navigation
Our 3-day itinerary will allow us a chance to take advantage of the weather and conditions to get the most of the trip. If you always wanted to ski from the summit of a glaciated peak, and want to learn a few skills to safely travel on glaciers, this would be a great trip for you! Previous ski touring experience and Level I Avalanche Training are required. Previous mountaineering experience is not required. This trip with be led by OSG Guides Gabe Coler and Aaron Hartz.
